The boys strut their stuff on Top Of The Pops

Canute Wellingon on trumpet, David Baptiste on sax and flute, and Nevil McKrieth on guitar, were parts of the many fragments caused by the brief demise of Light Of The World. But they still managed to make a significant mark of their own on the scene, with the assistance of their musical brethren, as members of Light Of The World and Central Line also performed on their records. During February 1981, the band promoted their biggest hit (Somebody) Help Me Out with an energetic and memorable performance on Top Of The Pops dressed as tramps. They released Monument their debut album, which also contained the very lively Got To Get Away. Joe Dworniak, a young musician who had his own group at the time, was an engineer on the LP.

Later that year, they provided the horn section for Spandau Ballet's Chant No. 1 which peaked at number 2 in the UK charts. Steve Norman and Gary Kemp returned the favour, by playing on Mule (Chant No. 2). These collaborations occurred after the two bands met during an appearance on Top Of The Pops, and struck up an unlikely friendship as New Romantics and Brit-funkers did not mix in general. However, Spandau Ballet were no strangers to the genre, as they initially recorded funk influenced singles earlier in their career.

As the 1980s advanced, Beggar & Co. released more singles such as We Can Work Out, and Rising Son, and even continued on into the 1990s. But they were unable to repeat their earlier success.
